If you are a five-star recruit not committed to a school, chances are you have heard from Juwan Howard and the Michigan basketball program.
McGowens had been committed to Florida State since February 8th of this year and was a key piece to their class that still ranks number one overall in the country.
He is ranked as a five-star and as the 25th overall player in the 2021 class according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He’s a 6’5 shooting guard who can score at all three levels and will make an immediate impact as a freshman.
It is unclear if Michigan plans to make McGowens an offer or if they even plan to make a push in his recruitment. But Juwan Howard did reach out to see if there would be a mutual interest.

The 2021 recruiting board for Michigan basketball has gotten much smaller over the last couple of months as Trevor Keels, Harrison Ingram, J.D. Davison and Brandon Weston have committed elsewhere.
With Michigan’s recruiting board getting smaller, it makes sense that Howard would pursue a guy like McGowens. Howard would still like to land an elite scorer in this class and with two open spots left, you know he’d like to fill those spots with five-star talent.
It should become more clear in the coming weeks how hard the Michigan basketball staff goes after McGowens. It could depend a lot on if they’re able to land someone like Caleb Houstan.
How Michigan closes out their 2021 class is still up in the air but no matter what happens, it’s already a good class. Frankie Collins, Kobe Bufkin, Isaiah Barnes, and Will Tschetter would be considered a very good class any season. But Juwan Howard has a chance to close strong and turn this 2021 class from very good to very special.
