Six members of the Trinity High School football team that will play Saturday for the Class 6A state championship were scheduled to sign national letters of intent with their future colleges Friday.
Here’s a look at the five:
Linebacker Jack Dingle (6-foot-4, 215 pounds) with Cincinnati. He has 23 tackles (16 solo), five sacks and three tackles for loss.
Defensive end Alton Jefferson (6-0, 250) with Eastern Illinois. He has 11 tackles (five solo) and 3 ½ sacks.

Offensive lineman Gavin Malott (6-9, 310) with Akron. Right tackle on a line that has helped Trinity average 320.1 yards and 44.6 points per game.
Offensive lineman Alex Moore (6-3, 280) with Air Force. Left tackle on a line that has helped Trinity average 320.1 yards and 44.6 points per game.
Free safety Blake Ruffin (6-3, 200) with Eastern Illinois. He has 18 tackles (eight solo), three interceptions and two tackles for loss.
Linebacker Charlie Ely (6-2, 225) was scheduled to sign with Appalachian State but announced Wednesday he will grayshirt with the program and sign next December.
“Due to a long required rehab process for my foot injury and season ending surgery, I have accepted a grayshirt offer from App State,” Ely wrote in a Tweet. “Will be bigger faster and stronger when I get to Boone in January 2022 and can’t wait to officially sign next December!”
Ely posted 21 ½ tackles (8 ½ solo), four sacks and 1 ½ tackles for loss this season before suffering the foot injury against Bowling Green on Oct. 30.
Here’s a look at other Louisville-area seniors who signed or were scheduled to sign with colleges Wednesday:
Manual wide receiver/safety Eli Blakey (6-2, 190) with Miami (Ohio). He had three receptions for 68 yards and two touchdowns and also posted 21 tackles (17 solo) and two tackles for loss.
Manual offensive lineman Rod Boller (6-4, 290) with Murray State. Anchored a line that helped the Crimsons average 279.6 yards and 31.4 points per game.
St. Xavier offensive lineman Evan Brown (6-4, 255) with Navy. Anchored a line that helped the Tigers average 255.3 yards and 23.3 points per game.
Manual wide receiver/cornerback Braxton Cannon (6-1, 190) with Air Force. He had seven receptions for 147 yards and two touchdowns and also posted two tackles.
Male cornerback Nick Coates (5-10, 180) with Eastern Illinois. He has 37 tackles (26 solo), two interceptions, two tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
Holy Cross quarterback Chaz Geraghty (6-3, 213) with Morehead State. He completed 76 of 143 passes for 1,196 yards and 11 touchdowns with six interceptions. He also lead the Cougars in rushing with 1,026 yards and 19 touchdowns on 164 carries (6.3 yards per carry).
Ballard defensive end Terran Hearn (6-3, 228) with Miami (Ohio). In four games, he posted 19 tackles (10 solo), four tackles for loss and four sacks.
Manual linebacker Malachi Lawrence (6-4, 250) with Central Florida. He posted 18 tackles (16 solo), 5 ½ tackles for loss, 2 ½ sacks, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.
