Alabama finishes the season on top of the Amway Coaches Poll
USA TODAY Sports’ Paul Myerberg breaks down the latest Amway Coaches Poll.
USA TODAY Sports spent the 2020 college football season taking careful notes on the 127 teams that were on the field this fall in the Football Bowl Subdivision. With the year complete, let’s hand out some grades.
It’s time for report cards for the FBS, with marks ranging from the ultra-rare A+ to the utter failure that is an F grade.
That A+ grade was achieved by only a select few teams. Most notable was national champion Alabama, the only unbeaten team, which dominated the College Football Playoff.
Five teams earned an F, including Louisiana-Monroe and Kansas.
Keep in mind that all report cards are graded on a relative curve. As an example, consider Indiana and Central Florida. Both teams finished with six wins, but that total at Indiana represents a more successful season than winning six games at Central Florida.

Likewise with Boston College and Auburn. The Eagles and Tigers went 6-5 during the regular season, which is cause for minor celebration for Boston College (B+) but is seen as a disappointment for Auburn (C-) and former coach Gus Malzahn, who was fired shortly after the end of the regular season.
