The Notre Dame Football team has a lot of talent returning, good enough to be ranked in the top-10 of a recently updated ranking.
We know the list of players leaving the Notre Dame Football program ahead of the 2021 college football season, as many will be drafted by an NFL team in this year’s draft. Overall, the Irish are losing a lot of key players on both sides of the ball, but the cupboard is far from barren when you look at this roster.
They return an elite running back in Kyren Williams, a player recently named a top sophomore returning, and Michael Mayer is continuing a long list of elite tight ends to play for Notre Dame Football. The offensive line losing nearly all of their starters, but there remains talent there, including Jarrett Patterson, who could be one of the best offensive linemen in college football this season.
On defense, the Irish are losing a first-round talent in Jeremiah Osuwu-Koramoah, but they have a first-round talent at safety in Kyle Hamilton. Also, they return veterans up front along the defensive line, and have a class of true freshmen coming in that will make an impact right away.
Oh yeah, they also added defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman.
Notre Dame Football ranked No. 10 overall
In a piece recently put together by 247sports, an article in which they updated their rankings for next year’s top-25, the Irish were listed as the No. 10 team in the country. While most feel the Irish could have been a bit higher, that ranking is not unfair, considering how many questions need to be answered this spring, and heading into the summer.
Jack Coan will take over as quarterback for Ian Book, and he is a proven winner at the FBS level, so that will soften the loss of Book. Tommy Rees is entering his second season as offensive coordinator, and he made strides in Year 1, so the hope is that he can continue to develop in that role under Brian Kelly.
Overall, the 2021 Notre Dame Football squad is going to be an exciting team to watch, and it will be interesting to see what a solid freshman class can contribute in Year 1. The Irish may start as a top-10 team, but based on the schedule, and the talent, do not be surprised if they shock some people this season.
